Christina: A Medieval Woman
Michael Wood presents a portrait of an ordinary person living through extraordinary times, tracing the life of a real-life peasant of 14th century Hertfordshire, Christina. She lived at a time of war and endured famine, floods, climate change and survived the Black Death, which would claim the lives of half the population. Christina was neither famous nor of noble blood, but her story is the key to understand our own roots from the end of serfdom and the growth of individual freedom to the start of a market economy.
