The Short Film Completion Fund 2005

The Short Film Completion Fund is run by the UK Film Council's New Cinema Fund.

A fund of £50,000 has been developed to support filmmakers and production companies in securing vital funds for the completion of short film projects that have already been shot but lack the fund to finish.

Maya Vision International is the managing company for the fund.

LUCKY is a ten-year-old rural Zulu boy who is going to live in Durban with his uncle. He promises to return as “a big man with a big job.” Only Durban turns out to be not as he expected. His uncle doesn’t want to look after him and he is definitely not being sent to school.

Lucky has won multiple awards including Best Short at Cinquefest San Jose 2006 (making it Oscar eligible in 2007). In addition, the film was nominated for Best Short Film at the 2006 BAFTA Awards and received Special Mentions at Clermont Ferrand 2006 and AFI Fest 2006.
