SIGN UP FOR THE KIBWORTH DIG - 25th and 26th July
As part of his exciting new series, English Story, Michael Wood wants YOUR help to uncover the past! Whether you have a garden to dig in Kibworth or Smeeton Westerby or if you are interested in digging in someone else's garden, we want to hear from you.
On the weekend of July 25th and 26th, in association with Carenza Lewis at the University of Cambridge, we are looking for families and individuals who would be willing to dig a small archaeological test pit in their garden as part of a historical survey of Kibworth Beauchamp, Kibworth Harcourt and Smeeton Westerby.
There will a short Instruction Session in Kibworth Grammar School Hall at 10.00am on Saturday 25th July 2009 where everything will be explained. You can then undertake the excavation over the weekend or at any other time convenient to you.
Michael, Carenza and her team will be on hand over the weekend of 25th and 26th July to guide you and explain the finds which will be carefully recorded for analysis. The television production team will also be present to film some of the digs, subject of course, to your individual consent.
Time is of the essence, so if you’re interested, we need to know as soon as possible!
Please ring Stephen Butt on 07982 845 112 to book your place on the instruction session and to tell us your address.
You can download a PDF copy of the Field Handbook below which will give you detailed information on excavating an archaeological test pit.
You can also download a PDF copy of the Record Booklet so you can log and keep track of all the data you find.
