Jane Lapotaire trained at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, joined the company for two years, then worked for four years with Sir Laurence
Olivier at the newly formed National Theatre at The Old Vic in London.

She has played many roles on television including Marie Curie for which she gained an Emmy and a BAFTA nomination. She won the Broadcasting and Press Guild Award for her portrayal of a barrister in the BBC TV series Blind Justice although she is probably more popularly known as the rabbi in Love Hurts. Recent films include There's Only One Jimmy Grimble with Ray Winstone and Robert Carlyle.

She is an honorary associate artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company, president of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre Club, president of Shakespeare's Globe Friends, and has three Honorary Doctorates from the University of Bristol, East Anglia, and Warwick. Her portrayal of Edith Piaf won her three major theatre awards in England and the Tony Award in America. She won the variety club award for her performance in Shadowlands and won the prestigious Helen Hayes Award in America for her portrayal of Katherine of Aragon for the RSC.
